Mastercard's Sambit Pattanayak to tackle data for profitable innovation at the 2018 Retail Banking Forum

He will join the forum as a thought leader.

Sambit Pattanayak, APT, vice president for client services at Mastercard, will be a thought leader at the 2018 Retail Banking Forum. The forum will launch in Manila on 28 February at the Shangri-La Makati.

The brief interview below reveals Sambit’s background, business philosophies, and more.

What are your previous experiences and positions held that contributed to who you are as a financial services expert today?
My experience spans across financial services and technology industries which I really value, as much of innovation in the financial services industry is now driven through technology.

Over the last 18 years I have held a variety of general management roles across financial services, technology, travel payments, and payments industries. I started my career at Lehman Brothers in Equity Research where I determined what business models help a technology organization succeed. I was able to build direct business development experience through multiple roles at CA Technologies where I learned the importance of customer centricity. My direct payments technology experience started at Travelport, a travel technology company where my remit was to build solutions for travel payments. At Mastercard, I lead new product development for commercial card business globally for several years and then took on my existing responsibility of heading Southeast & South Asia region for the company’s Test & LearnTM software business. This variety of experiences globally have really given me a wide range of knowledge in the industry across multiple areas and allowed me to build thought leadership regarding the future of the industry.

What are your key business philosophies?
My key philosophy is to always start with the customers, and understanding their business, their needs and pain-points. It is very important to note that they are all different, so one size doesn’t fit all. I believe in helping companies by tailoring the solutions we present to them to meet their unique customer needs.

Can you give us a glimpse of what you will share at the ABF Retail Banking Forum?
In today’s competitive business climate, companies need analytics that are easy to use and drive action. At the conference I will be talking about the power of big data and analytics to drive innovation in the financial services industry. I will specifically discuss how large organizations can use MasterCard’s latest “Test & Learn” software solution to rapidly and precisely measure cause-and-effect relationships between business initiatives and outcomes to generate economic value. Test & Learn is a technology that allows companies to grow profitably while reducing the risk involved in innovation.
