Indonesia has the most profitable banking system in ASEAN: Nomura
Its ROA is forecast to reach 2.7% in 2013F.
According to Nomura, the profitability of ASEAN banks has risen fairly significantly since 2009, and this is expected to continue into 2013F. The average return on assets (ROA) for ASEAN banks was 1.5% in 2012, which Nomura estimates to rise to 1.6% in 2013F (1.2% in 2009).
Here's more from Nomura:
This compares with the current average ROA of 1.4% for BRICS countries. We forecast return on equity (ROE) for ASEAN banks to remain at 16% in 2013F from 2012F, but up from 14% in 2009. This compares with 18% for banks in BRICS countries (which are more geared than ASEAN banks).
Indonesia continues to be (by far) the most profitable banking system within ASEAN, compared with BRICS. We forecast its ROA to reach 2.7% in 2013F, in line with its peak profitability in 2011.
