Hang Seng Bank warns of phishing SMS messages, fake WhatsApp accounts
These phishing SMS and fake accounts prompt users to provide their banking info.
Hang Seng Bank has warned customers of phishing SMS messages and fake WhatsApp accounts posing as the bank.
In a statement, the Hong Kong-based bank urged the public to be vigilant of phishing messages that contain links redirecting customers to fraudulent WhatsApp accounts.
These accounts will then prompt users to provide personal information and e-banking login credentials to purchase products and services through deceptive websites.
The phishing messages contain any of the following links:

• ‘https://wa[.]me/85292508024’
• ‘https://wa[.]me/85257314310’
• ‘https://wa[.]me/85259167530’
Hang Seng Bank said that it has no affiliation with the phishing SMS messages or WhatsApp accounts.

“We never request customers to log into their Personal e-Banking accounts to complete or cancel a transaction, to apply for or eactivate a security device, or to provide personal information such as their HKID number, e-banking login credentials, credit card information, or one-time passwords through links embedded in emails, SMS, instant messaging apps, or similar channels,” the bank said in a press release.
Hang Seng Bank further reminded customers that its official website is www. hangseng. com. cn, and that customers should access their website by typing in the official website address directly into the address bar.
Customers who receive suspicious emails, SMS messages, or websites claiming to be Hang Seng Bank, are advised to forward them to phishing@hangseng.com.
